Open: Indoor and outdoor options for staying fit

Staying fit these days has never been more important, and the experts tell us that getting some exercise, whether a vigorous workout at the gym or a group yoga class is important for our physical and mental well-being.  We’ve compiled a list here of facilities that are open – and one outdoor venue for those seeking a back-to-nature experience.


Texas Health Huguley Fitness Center is also open and observing safety guidelines to ensure the wellness of its patrons, and has resumed its regular facility hours.  The Fitness Center is led by qualified fitness professionals and is open to the public, offering affordable rates and innovative programming, including group fitness classes and senior-focused programming, as well as fitness coaching.

The Burleson Rec Center (The BRiCk) is open with limited services due to COVID-19 and observing related protocols – such as temperature checks for those entering the facility – to ensure a safe workout environment.  Workout reservations are recommended.  For membership information and a list of amenities, including the fitness area, pools, and Kid Zone, click here.

Anytime Fitness is open and observing state-mandated protocols, including wearing face coverings and requiring social distancing.  According to the Burleson facility manager, additional sanitizing solution and paper towel dispensaries have been installed throughout the gym, with equipment spaced six feet apart.  In addition, large orange cones have been made available to members to place next to equipment they’re using, to ensure social distancing.

The Crowley Recreation Center is open and observing state-mandated protocols, including requiring face masks in all common areas, and gloves in the weight room.  The facility is offering group classes, such as Zumba, and ensuring that participants are evenly distributed throughout the room to ensure proper safe distancing.  Currently, the facility is not allowing basketball and volleyball play; however, pickleball is permitted.  The facility is open weekdays from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Anytime Fitness in Joshua is open and following state mandates, including six-feet social distancing and sanitation guidelines.  The facility is operating at 50% capacity as allowed by state law, and members are asked to follow COVID-safe protocols, keeping equipment clean and avoiding gathering in groups.

The Joshua Community YMCA is open and operating under state protocols to ensure the health and safety of members and staff.  Members are asked to wear masks when possible, especially in common areas where other members are present.  In addition to practicing social distancing of a minimum of six feet, a limited number participants will be allowed in the facilities and certain areas of the building.  

Although group exercise classes will be limited, the facility will continue to offer virtual classes.  All members are asked to bring their own water bottle and towels, which are currently not provided.  Poos are open with limited activities and capacity measures being taken.  A full list of what members can expect can be found here.
